Musics effect on teens

From lifting our spirits on a tough day to enhancing our focus, music holds the power to transform our emotions, health, and well-being in ways we often overlook. But what about music makes it so uniquely impactful in our everyday lives? Although music can simply be for listening and enjoyment, it can help teens struggling to communicate their feelings. While teens might be unable to name what they’re going through, they could find a song that perfectly expresses their feelings.
For me music has helped me on a personal level during a moment in my life when I was struggling with depression, and music helped me get better and realize my worth. It was hard for me to express myself to others. I tried therapy, and it helped, but not in the way I needed it to; however, music was always there and still is where I can go to relieve my stress.
First of all, music can reduce isolation. Listening to music can help us feel like someone else understands what we are going through. Some of us listen to music alone, and it reduces stress and lessens feelings of isolation from others. Music is decisive in mental health and well-being, from stress relief to physiological benefits. For some people, music often has an even greater significance; it can contribute to identity formation.
Andy Freeman, a clinical therapist, explains that " throughout the adolescent years, we tend to attach to music in a way unlike any other point of life.” He adds,"Music becomes traditional as teens work through the trials and tribulations of adolescence.” Music can create a healing environment during a time of uncertainty.
“Relating to teens through something they enjoy can help build the therapeutic relationship,” adds Freeman. “Music can also benefit patients who struggle with verbal expression.”
The lyrics can be about themselves and help teens find their true identity. Additionally, they can reflect on their identity and what they want from life. Because of this, it can serve as a form of self-expression. It’s also another way to show how music can help teens develop a sense of self-identity.
The power of music can often be underestimated. It is more than just a catchy melody or driving beat; it can evoke emotion, shape culture, and connect generations. Music has played an integral role in human history and is an essential part of our lives today.
Overall, music has benefits for helping teens find their identities if they are struggling with them. It can serve as a form of self-expression and provide a positive distraction from negative thoughts and emotions.
