On February 7, the Maria Carrillo Black Student Union club held its second annual Black History Month assembly. Students could sign up with a link to attend the presentation during Advocacy. There was a mixture of poems and music to represent Black artists' impact on our world. It started with club President Senior Sheikyelah Kahoro and Vice President Junior Kamille Singleton reciting a poem titled “<insert a life here>,” about the realities of the Black experience and its meaning. It tackles ideas such as oppression against people of color and their resistance against it. Afterward, Nico Diaz, Joseph Dominquez, and Damien Hernandez did a rendition of the Ariel Camacho song “Me Gustas Mucho” on guitars and sang. Lastly, rappers Amari J and Chantino Mollique made a special appearance and performed various songs.
