First Carrillo tailgate party was a success

Spirit is in the air— a new efficient community-building event has arrived at Maria Carrilo High School! If you enjoy the Puma community coming together and the liveliness of sports, then the tailgate is for you. The event featured a campus decked out in support of fellow pumas. It was full of peers enjoying themselves, playing games, eating, or just taking in the atmosphere.

Students attending the tailgate had lots to say about it, including Emma Riggs, a freshman at MCHS, “everyone was really kind and inviting, I really loved the atmosphere!” said Riggs. A diverse range of all grade levels made an appearance, creating an exciting and accepting ambiance. Pumas of all ages were excited, as this was the first time this event had been brought to the Pumas, courtesy of teacher Natasha Deakins and her leadership team. Deakins cheerfully stated that she was able to accomplish this event with the support of the “Willing, able, people on board.” They served food such as hotdogs, cookies, and a chip of your choice, along with amusing games like bean bag toss, spike ball, and tennis.

Freshmen Emily Brent and Jasmine Castaneda rocked the Puma gear, stating “We feel so puma!” Everyone who made an appearance at the tailgate was full of spirit and put on a positive attitude. After an hour of activities, the accounted-for students took a lengthy bus ride to Petaluma High School, where the football team reigned victorious! With a winning score of 42-21, it is safe to say the tailgate inspired both the students and the football team.
Natasha Deakins enjoyed the team effort put towards school spirit stating, “is cute and I’m happy people are loving it.”
Overall the event seemed to be a success and Pumas wished for another tailgate to celebrate their spirit, conveying that the staff will most likely have another one in the future.
