Carrillo Track team continues to thrive

With 58 different events going on throughout a singular track meet, there is a lot to look at in just one day, yet this is what some students' Wednesdays look like during track season.
On April 10th, Carrillo hosted another Wednesday meet, competing with Analy High School while also holding senior night, honoring the graduating senior track runners. Carrillo’s track team has had a successful track season so far, with some runners tired from competing in the Arcadia Invitational meet, down in southern California, the previous weekend. One of Maria Carrillo's coaches, Victor Hudson stated that at Arcadia “They did what I expected, they had fun” and “They ran hard and they gained a lot of confidence” which he thought showed in their performances last Wednesday.
To start the meet off the team handed out roses to both Carrillo and Analy senior runners. After a lot of photos, both teams started warming up for the first event, the 4x100m relay, which ended in Carrillo teams taking most of the top spots but with Analy stealing first for varsity boys and junior varsity girls.
Analy varsity boys and junior varsity girls came in strong for the 100m, filling up most of the top spots. Yet, Carrillo leveled the playing fields with the varsity girls and junior varsity boys matching their pace. The 200m held a similar fate with Analy’s varsity boys and junior varsity girls balancing out the varsity girls and junior varsity boys' times, with an overall impressive showing from both teams in the shorter distance events.
On the long-distance front, Maria Carrillo dominated, with Carrillo runners placing in the top three of the 1600m on every team and 13 new personal records occurring during the 800m. In the 110m, 100m, and 300m Carrillo filled the top spots once again.
Maria Carrillo's pole vault team dominated once again, with Allison Kaputska reaching a season record of nine feet and six inches. Discus thrower Beau Gleeson had a personal record for the varsity discus landing the only first place for Maria Carrillo in the discus event. Both the varsity and junior varsity boys shot put teams excelled, with nine total personal records. In the high jump, Analy took many of the top spots. Yet Carrillo's varsity long jumpers were able to secure two of the three top spots and Nehemiah Holiday landed first in both the long jump and triple jump. Additionally, Carlyana Kwong scored a personal record of 33’ feet 8 in the triple jump.
Finally, the meet ended with loud cheers from the teams lining the edge of the field and parents on the edges of their seats, as the varsity boys 4x4 was a close call, with the Maria Carillo anchor Carson Hubenette pulling through at the final 100 meters.
Analy track runner Sakima Woods stated the team came in with the mindset that “Carrillo has had a strong program for a lot of years” and that they were just “trying to get some points on the board” which they succeeded in doing, with over 63 personal records in this meet alone.
Overall all of Carrillo's track teams, varsity and junior varsity boys and girls, won against Analy by at least 31 points, securing another win in the track team's impressive record.
