Perfectly balanced lattes, salty yet sweet scones, fresh colorful salads, heavenly fries that satisfy any craving, sandwiches with soft buttered bread that soothes a growling stomach–Zoftig Eatery has something for everyone. Matt and Sonjia Spector, parents of Maria Carrillo High School senior Joe Spector, are the proud owners of the stylish, modern restaurant with cute boho decorations. Sonjia Spector said their inspiration for opening the eatery was to have a place “more casual, like a place where people could come every day or, you know, a few times a week, not just on special occasions,” a place where customers can eat “really fresh food and still feel good about themselves after they eat.” A central theme I’ve seen in all of Zoftig’s food is freshness.
I was first intrigued to try Zoftig by their unique salads. Their Caesar Chan puts a twist on the usual Caesar salad with fun new ingredients like white beans and piquillo peppers, and their Mo’ Berry Blue salad is one of my family's all-time favorites, with the delicious sprinklings of berries, cucumbers, goat cheese, almonds, and champagne vinaigrette.
Additionally, their fries are unbeatable. They have the perfect amount of crunch that makes them mouth-wateringly good. The most popular dish of all, according to Sonjia Spector, is the Korean Burrito, which was featured on the Food Network TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.” Another favorite is the Maccabi Bowl, which I experimented with recently. It was visually appealing, beautifully bright pink beets topped with triangular pita chips, and I knew from the first bite it would live up to its looks. The combination of falafel, hummus, beet salad, chips, and were a delightfully flavorful mixture.
My sister, Maria Carrillo sophomore Lauren Cregan, is my most common Zoftig trip partner. Her go-to dish is the Standard Turkey sandwich because “it tastes really fresh and has lots of organic ingredients,” but most of all “the bread makes the sandwich.” Just like the fries, the bread is also unbeatable and makes every bite delectable. My sister’s favorite part of Zoftig is “the inclusive gluten free options,” especially because their menu does not just end at lunch and dinner. They have a large variety of breakfast and dessert options too, with scrumptious items such as scones, cookies, cakes, muffins, and even ice cream. Top it off with one of their amazing coffee choices, and you’re set with a delicious treat.
Overall, Zoftig is a nice casual place to stop and eat for any meal that has options for everyone. They are located at 57 Montgomery Drive inside the Creekside Center. Not only is the food enjoyable, but the sweet owners are also there to care for their eatery every day, and the employees are nothing but friendly.
I would definitely recommend Zoftig Eatery!
