March Artist of the Month: Charlotte Knight

Being an incredible visual artist is hard, which is what makes Charlotte Knight so talented. She has been practicing since childhood, and her dedication, talent and hardwork is paying off. You may have seen her work on display in the art building or the office. With a love for Hollywood and Disney, her work is both jaw dropping and incredibly beautiful. 

Perkins: When did you realize you loved art?

Knight: “I think I have always loved art, but I guess I first realized I loved art when I was first able to use my sisters nice art supplies. She’s an artist, and I suppose it’s been a part of my life from when I was born.”

P: Have you always been interested in drawing?

K: “Yes. Like I said, my sisters and family have always been artistic and art has always been around me. I have always drawn whatever comes to mind even as a small child so it’s safe to say I have always loved to draw.” 

P: What has been the hardest thing you have had to learn how to do?

K: “I think the hardest thing I’ve had to learn how to do is shade realistically. It’s something that takes a lot of time and effort and it is very hard to make sure the colors match and the shadows created are actually where they should be.”

P: What has been the most rewarding thing you have learned how to do?

K: “I think that because learning how to shade realistically was the hardest thing for me to learn it is also one of the most rewarding things I have learned. I look at pieces of art from when I started compared to now and I’m really proud of how far I’ve come.” 

P: Are you involved with any other programs outside of school?

K: “Unfortunately, no. I want to focus on school right now and during the school year. Maybe over the summer I will look into potential art programs I can apply to or join.”

P: Do you think art will be a part of your future in either college or employment?

K: “I plan to continue to draw in college and maybe take an art class or two in college. I’m not sure if I’ll major or minor in it though. I’m thinking of rolling with the flow and seeing where the future takes me.”

P: Who is your favorite artist?

K: “My favorite artist is Michelangelo because he mastered everything that I love about art over 400 years ago and inspires me to keep going even if I feel like giving up on a piece I’m not particularly happy with.”
