On March 13, 2025, Maria Carrillo High School Principal Amy Wiese was handed a pink slip stating that she would not return to her job the following school year. Although she was not the only one handed a slip, this decision has spurred outrage amongst staff and students alike.

Wiese was chosen as one of the many cuts in a long list of staff layoffs at MCHS. The Board justified their decision by stating that Wiese “was not a good fit” for Maria Carrillo.

Wiese has been the principal at MCHS for one year, but was previously the vice principal for six years. Over this time, the student body has grown to love and respect her. She has proven to be an exemplary puma, as shown by the Youth Truth survey. The survey shows that Wiese’s leadership has brought about improvement at MCHS in all categories.

This sudden decision has left MCHS students, teachers, and families confused and shocked.

In response, some members of the MCHS community are planning to make a statement and meet at the District Office tomorrow, March 14, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. to protest the sudden loss of their principal.
